Witness

to have borne witness
to the passage of time
and the changing of seasons
to have captured sunlight
and be cloaked in shadows
to have seen beginnings and ends
and to have heard breath and gasp
the stone remains
only until it too
cracks
crumbles
until nothing is left
but the memories of what was seen
touched
heard
felt
loved.
